Star Party July 24, 2020 – Cancelled due to COVID-19 guidelines
July 24 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
The EAS usually holds monthly star parties at the College Hill Reservoir on the Friday closest to the moon’s first quarter. These star parties are free and open to the public. We provide the telescopes and will show you what’s up there in the night sky. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to host a star party since February, and even with the loosened restrictions on gatherings we’re not yet sure if we’ll be able to host a star party on our regularly scheduled date of July 24th. We’re working on ideas for how to do it safely within the Covid virus gathering guidelines, but so far nothing has come together into a solid plan. We may try to use cameras and video screens to show people the view through our telescopes without anyone needing to touch anything, but we’re still working on the logistics of that. We may try a virtual star party on Zoom instead. Or we may have to simply cancel (which seems like the most likely scenario). Check back here closer to the date to see if we’ve figured it out.
The College Hill Reservoir is located on Lawrence Street between 23rd and 25th Avenue.
Star parties start at dusk or 6:00, whichever is later (9:00 this time of year) and last as long as there is interest. Everyone is welcome to come, and we usually have many different types of telescopes set up for viewing (some invented by our members!)
If this is your first star party, please read our Star Party Dos and Don’ts.
