September 7 Star Party at Thompson’s Mill
September 7 @ 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm
On Saturday, September 7th, the EAS will host a star party at Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site, 1.7 miles east of the town of Shedd, Oregon. This is an excellent dark-sky site and the Moon will only be a couple days old, so expect to see plenty of deep-sky objects at this star party.
The party officially starts at 7:00, but that’s to give people time to tour the mill, which you should definitely do if you haven’t done so multiple times already. It’s one of the last water-powered grain mills in the country, and a wonderful example of 19th-century engineering. Sunset will be at 7:30, but the Moon will still be up so we should be able to show people close-ups of that until dark, which should be about 8:00.
Club members: Bring your telescopes! Everyone else: Bring your curiosity and sense of wonder. We’ll give it a workout at Thompson’s Mill!
